Abstract: This PhD will focus on the mechanical aspects of the latest generation of wind turbines from SGRE. Computational and field analysis based on real or synthesized data focusing on the mechanical and structural elements of the turbines such as the blades, tower, bed plate or drivetrain components will be undertaken. The overall aim of the PhD will be to assist in reducing the overall cost of energy associated with the mechanical and structural components of the wind turbines. This reduction will occur through more efficient use of materials and processes to allow for reduced turbine CAPEX and OPEX.
