Research area: Multi-Physics Downscaling and Validation Framework for Air-Gap Analysis of a 15-MW IEA Direct-Drive Wind Generator
This project investigates the coupled electromagnetic structural behavior of a downscaled 15 MW IEA direct-drive generator subjected to aerodynamic and hydrodynamic loading. A parametric sweep analysis is conducted to quantify how ovality, static and dynamic eccentricities, and external forces influence the air-gap flux density (Bg), rotor deflection, and Maxwell radial stress. The simulation framework integrates electromagnetic and structural models to isolate the effect of each disturbance on field distribution and mechanical response. While this phase focuses on numerical analysis, the developed methodology will later be validated experimentally and extended for full-scale upscaling using the same simulation approach.
