Selina Brinkmann

Univeristy of Oxford

Selina’s doctoral research investigates the effects of steady and unsteady loading on lab-scale tidal turbines, comparing traditionally machined blades with those produced using rapid manufacturing techniques. She evaluated load response and material properties of various 3D-printed materials, identifying one that resists water absorption during long-term submersion while behaving similarly to machined blades. Her ongoing work involves developing a process to strain gauge the root of the 3D-printed blade, accommodating the material’s creep behavior by using a viscoelastic model to correct strain readings over time. Selina’s expertise spans renewable energy systems, experimental engineering, and sustainable innovation.
